As we reported on our previous wildfire bulletin on August 23, there are numerous active wildfires throughout the drought-stricken West. Currently, 78 large fires or complexes have burned more than 1.9 million acres in 10 states. Of those, the fires with the greatest impact to homeowners are three located in California: Dixie, Caldor and Monument.
California Fires
During the last week of August, the weather in California was favorable for their development. Atmospheric conditions caused strong, dry winds. Combined with low relative humidity and abundant fuels, the situation resulted in a period of critical fire conditions that lasted through September 1, prompting multiple red flag warnings.
Evacuation orders for the Caldor wildfire (impacting approximately 22,000 people) burning near South Lake Tahoe were downgraded to warnings this past Sunday afternoon as crews made progress.

It’s important to note that not all properties within a Zip Code will be impacted as the fire perimeter may be smaller than the area covered by the Zip Code region.
Fires in Oregon & Other States
National General is also actively monitoring the six major wildfires currently burning in Oregon. Like wildfires in other states, none appear to be located near heavily populated areas. We will continue to monitor their containment.
